Synopsis:
Five years after the death of David Bowie, Gabriel Range’s film takes a leap into a ‘mostly’ fictitious account of a trip the singer took across the US in 1971.

That year was when Bowie’s image began to take shape with the release of ‘Hunky Dory’. Range’s film follows in the footsteps of the Lennon and Morrisey dramas ‘Nowhere Boy’ and ‘England is Mine’ in presenting a portrait of the artist on the cusp of greatness. And like other noted biopics, such as the Bacon and Hendrix dramas ‘Love is the Devil’ and ‘Jimi: All is By My Side’, ‘Stardust’ relies on invention in the place of performances of tracks from that era of the singer-songwriter’s career. Johnny Flynn (‘Beast’, ‘Emma’) plays the 24-year-old soon-to-be superstar, as he embarks on a road trip across the States, which also involves a series of press interviews with bemused journalists. It’s a fascinating snapshot of the man who would soon steal the world for himself.
