Emmeline Pankhurst (Meryl Streep) makes a defiant move by speaking in front of a crowd of women during the suffragette movement in England. Maud Watts (Carey Mulligan) listens along with other women hoping that one day Emmeline’s words will spark real change so that women will be able to have equal rights with their male counterparts. With the help of the women supporting the cause, Emmeline gets away after her speech just in time; avoiding arrest from the police that are hot on her tail.
